Grade 6History

The Kingdom Falls

The collapse of the Israelite kingdoms came in two stages. First, the Assyrian Empire conquered the northern kingdom of Israel. Then the Chaldean Empire, led by Nebuchadnezzar, conquered the southern kingdom of Judah, destroying Jerusalem and the First Temple. The Chaldeans forced many people of Judah into exile in Babylon — a traumatic period called the Babylonian Exile. This experience deeply shaped Jewish identity, religion, and scripture. This 6th grade history topic is covered in Chapter 4 of IMPACT California Social Studies, Grade 6, where students examine the end of the ancient Israelite kingdoms.
