Section 1
Comparing Gravity and Magnetism
Key Idea
We can predict how an object will move by knowing the type of force acting on it. Gravity is always an attractive force, meaning it only pulls objects down toward Earth; it never pushes them away.
Magnetism is different. While magnets can attract (pull), they can also repel (push) other magnets away. Gravity pulls everything down, but magnets can push or pull depending on how they are arranged.
